SECRETS FROM A FOREST
360° FULLDOME CINEMA FILM
CLIENT: RAVENWOOD FILMS / THE BELL MUSEUM
Our Universe is a delicate dance between ourselves and nature, science and art. This beautiful new full-dome film explores the relationship between resonance, sound and vibration.
All matter is in a constant state of vibration. This feature dome film follows the wood of a single tree - grown high in snowy forests of the Dolomite mountains - on a timeless journey through the hands of a master violin-maker, and on to its magical performance on stage. Secrets From a Forest combines cutting-edge filmmaking with immersive cinema. Created as a collaboration between by world-renowned photographer Jim Brandenburg and award-winning director Neil Lucas, the film places viewers right inside environments no traditional screen could ever capture.
Shadow created over 120 visual effects shots for the film, and provided all on-location VFX supervision and planning for the 360° Fulldome filming. Shadow’s team built all of the specialist VR supervision software tools for location shoots in Italy and the US. Allowing the crew to monitor the live feeds from the 8K cameras and compose shots with real-time, full-dome simulation in VR - whilst filming in completely off-grid locations. Shadow also carried out the online editing and mastering post-production process for the film.
“This movie is so new and exciting it’s breaking new ground in dome production…. but, we simply couldn’t have made it just a few years ago” - Jim Brandenburg.
Winner of multiple international immersive-film awards, including Best Fulldome Feature, Best Narrative, Best Sound, and a Best of Earth Award, this is more than a nature documentary. It is a cinematic journey through the hidden connections between music, nature and human creativity. Secrets From a Forest was created for the Bell Museum Minneapolis as their first major, live-action, fulldome film, and is now on distribution at dome cinemas across the world.
